Sometimes you get totally out of the blue opportunities you just do not plan for. Not long after opening the studio I was very aware that selling my mosaic work would need a really professional approach. After watching Jack Dorsey on BBC 2's Newsnight talking about his new venture, the Square payments systems. As I work out of studio without broadband I was wondering how to be able to satisfy customers wanting to pay via a debit or credit card. Here was the answer. After lots of research and comparison I decided to sign up for a card reader and dock, downloaded the app and that was that.
A few weeks ago I received an email from Square UK asking if I would like to come along and show my work, and do some crafting sitting in the window of their pop up shop in Birmingham. They were taking one of the beautiful shops in the Victorian Great Western Arcade in the city centre.
And here is a small selection of my mosaic in the window. Square also asked me to create a mosaic version of their logo, which I was very happy to do. I met some fantastic people from the company and lots of great people, taken slightly by surprise to see the shop there! I guess that is what pop up is all about.
I was only able to be there for two Saturdays (too busy creating stock for Christmas open days),but it was brilliant to be able to talk to people about setting up a small craft business and sold way more than I had anticipated - always an added bonus! It was quite affirming to talk about the work and it did my confidence a power of good to see the wide range of people who engaged with my work.
